Project Overview

Workshop overhaul and reconditioning of a cargo pump experiencing reduced capacity, abnormal noise and seal leakage.

Operational Challenge

The pump’s reduced performance affected cargo-operation readiness. Inspection was required to determine whether the fault was related to impeller condition, shaft wear, bearings, seals or internal clearances.

Technical Assessment

The unit was received, photographed and dismantled under controlled workshop conditions. Components were cleaned and inspected for erosion, corrosion, scoring, distortion and wear. Shaft run-out, bearing seats, impeller condition and casing clearances were checked.

Detailed Scope of Work

Execution Methodology

All dismantled parts were arranged and identified. Damaged sealing and bearing components were renewed. Recoverable surfaces were cleaned and corrected, and final clearances were checked during reassembly. The completed unit was rotated manually and tested for leakage and mechanical freedom before release.

HSE Controls

Cleaning chemicals, lifting equipment and pressurized testing were controlled under workshop procedures. Components were secured during handling and guards were used for rotating or pressurized tests.

Quality Assurance and Inspection

Measurements, replaced parts and test results were recorded. The pump was released only after satisfactory rotation, sealing condition and inspection of all accessible joints.

Project Outcome

The cargo pump was returned in serviceable condition, allowing the vessel to proceed with planned cargo operations after onboard installation and commissioning.
